The Alhambra Music Hall, Lowesmoor

| The Alhambra Music Hall was a wooden building with an earth floor, situated half-way between Rainbow Hill canal bridge and the gates of the Port of Lowesmoor, on the north side of the road, on a site later occupied by Harper's Brewery. It had previously been used for circuses and equestrian events. When it was first used as a music hall is not known, but possibly in the early 1860s, for in 1869, advertisements refer to it as 'The Old Alhambra'. By 1863 there was a resident company which performed at the Arboretum Pleasure Grounds, and the press reported that in a parade held for the visit of the Royal Agricultural Society Show held at Worcester that year, the 'Alhambra Company with their band carriage containing Maori chiefs, and one or two natives of the celestial kingdom', took part. |
