Over the centuries a great many colourful characters have made their mark on this great ancient city, some well known - Sarah Siddons, Edward Elgar, 'Woodbine Willie', Vesta Tilley; others, like Milberrow-Doelittle and Mouth-Organ Annie, long forgotten. It is this rich mixture of people, and the way they lived and worked, that forms the basis of this Web-Site.

Isaac Wedley, Antiquarian, Author and Organist

Issac Wedley died in January 1941. He was organist of Stourport Church at the age of 20, and continued until his death at the age of 76. He travelled the countryside the hard way; climbing Snowdon four times, Cader Idris, Black Combe and the shoulder of Scawfell. He had walked round Lake Vyrnwy at midnight, and explored coal mines. He went down the Severn to the sea in a dinghy and rode back ten miles on the back of the Bore without rowing. He was famed locally as an antiquarian, lectured extensively, and was the author of a number of books: 'Old Stourport', 'Twixt Severn and Teme', 'The passing of Mitton' and 'Bewdley and its Surroundings'. It was Wedly that found and identified Yarranton's 17th century blast furnace on Dick Brook after the collapse of the Sharpley Pool dam in 1924.
